A little book of juice. I have always loved the juice of fruits and vegetables for their sweetness and refreshing quality, and felt that the whole subject had been somewhat hijacked by the health food lobby, who looked on juice purely as a way to stay healthy. Thirst, my shortest book, is very much a hymn to juice as pleasure rather than something to make you slimmer, fitter and healthier. It is about the sheer pleasure that lies in the juice of ripe fruits at their peak. It is full of recipes that actually taste wonderful rather than make claims they probably cannot live up to.

From the introduction
"I have always been a slave to juice, that sweet, heady nectar from a ripe peach or melon that runs down your chin and drips onto your chest. Juice is what takes fruit from being simply a pleasure to a sensual experience."

"A writer incapable of an uninspiring sentence."  The Daily Express
